Cyber Risk Aware appoints Nick Wilding as Chief Innovation Officer to build next generation of security training solutions

Nick brings over 20 years of experience to Cyber Risk Aware and will oversee the design and release of new human risk management and behaviour change solutions.

Nick Wilding - CINO of Cyber Risk AwareLONDON – 4th May 2021- Cyber Risk Aware, which delivers real-time cyber security awareness training to staff in response to actual staff network behaviour, is excited to announce that Nick Wilding has joined the team as Chief Innovation Officer (CINO) at a time of growth in the expanding security awareness training (SAT) market.

In his new role, Nick will oversee the research, design and launch of new human risk management and behaviour change solutions that address the changing market need – migrating away from traditional ‘tick-the-box’ training to more intelligent behaviour driven techniques. This work will be underpinned by new research and input through close relationships with academia, clients, industry experts and the sales and technical teams at Cyber Risk Aware.

Nick has planned a series of webinars with the Oxford Cyber Academy. The series, which is aimed at C-suite leaders including HR and risk directors, and senior IT professionals, looks at the need for a fresh look at addressing the ‘human factor’ in organisational resilience and building a cyber-risk aware workforce. Nick brings over 20 years experience in security and resilience to his new role at Cyber Risk Aware. He held various senior roles at Detica (now BAE Systems Applied Intelligence), and more recently at AXELOS Global Best Practice where he created and led the RESILIA cyber resilience best practice training portfolio. This included RESILIA Frontline, NCSC certified security awareness training for all staff, which was acquired by the Access Group in October 2020 where Nick helped with its transition into their security proposition. Nick has worked with a wide range of organisations from across the private, public and third sector to help them mature from annual ‘tick-box boredom’ to engaging, targeted and relevant campaign driven security awareness learning.

Nick said “Cyber Risk Aware is at the forefront of behaviour based security training, and helping employees in their critical moment of need when faced with a range of threats. It is a vision that I share, and I am looking forward to working with them to build the next generation of solutions and services that will help enterprises across the globe bolster their stance against one of the most significant business risks they face.”

Nick feels strongly about the importance of evidence-based techniques and proven behaviour models in designing and adapting security awareness training. He has strong links with academia and is involved in research commissioned by the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre – with University College London (UCL) that is assessing how boards can understand and effectively manage their organisational cyber risk; and with Royal Holloway, University of London, assessing the critical elements in creating a people-centred security culture. Nick also manages a Steering Group, made up of senior security awareness practitioners and leading academics, designed to create a new set of principles and narratives that can underpin new approaches to effective security awareness and behaviour change.

“I’m delighted to welcome Nick to the team at Cyber Risk Aware. Nick brings a wealth of industry and academic experience, incredible knowledge and insight into what companies are looking to achieve from their security awareness training programmes,” said Stephen Burke, CEO & Founder of Cyber Risk Aware. “Nick and I have shared the same vision for several years, in that the industry has to move beyond tick the box scheduled training and phishing simulations, and instead should be helping staff in their exact moment of need. With Nick on board, we look forward to further enhancing our unique real-time training capability, behaviour database and models, delivering maximum value to our amazing clients.”
