Cyber Risk Aware’s Stephen Burke receives award as
4 November 2020 – Today, Stephen Burke – CEO and Founder of Cyber Risk Aware – has been recognised as a UK CSO30 Award winner for 2020, an award highlighting the UK’s top 30 security professionals for outstanding security leadership. The prestigious award has been granted to Stephen Burke for his excellent work to improve security awareness and education in the last year, during a time when it’s been more crucial than ever.
“I am honoured to have been recognised for such an esteemed award, which wouldn’t have been possible without the great work of my colleagues but also our much-valued clients and partnerships around the world” said Burke. “Throughout our work it has been great to see more people understanding the importance of nurturing the human element of security, and as such our business has experienced exponential growth and been able to spread our message wider than ever.”
Stephen has been working at the sharp end of cyber security since 2009 and founded Cyber Risk Aware in 2016 having consistently found that cyber criminals were targeting people not systems. With a firm belief that staff are the greatest security asset in a company, Stephen helps businesses address this vulnerability by helping implement effective information security programmes with a human centric approach.
With over 90% of data breaches caused by human error, and 44% of employee mistakes caused by lack of awareness of human cybersecurity principles, user behaviour and education needs to be tackled first and foremost. Cyber Risk Aware helps companies worldwide assess and mitigate the level of human cyber risk in their business by running simulated phishing attacks and cyber knowledge assessments to see where the risks lie in their business and to deliver new-school security awareness training content to those who need it. As the only behaviour-driven security awareness platform in the world that offers training in ‘Real Time’, Cyber Risk Aware delivers the right message, to the right user at the right time. Recently recognised by Gartner for its innovative and unique cyber security solution, it’s feature-rich platform helps businesses protect themselves from the inside out, creating a Human Firewall as a first line of defence.
CSO30 is run by CSO Online, and celebrates the work and initiatives in the cybersecurity industry that demonstrate business value, thought leadership, and help reduce cybersecurity risk. CSO Online has been running awards celebrating the work of CISOs, CSOs, and other cybersecurity professionals for several years in the US. And now, with the launch of CSO Online in the UK last year, they want to celebrate those achievements and recognise the UK’s leading CISOs and highlight risk and security excellence by launching the CSO30 awards. Judged by a select committee, recognition in the awards can vary from efforts to manage the impact of COVID and the switch to remote work at scale, helping to secure digital transformation initiatives, strengthen security awareness and education efforts, utilize new security technologies, and much more.
“We have had some great entries and want to recognise the UK’s leading CISOs and highlight risk and security excellence and all the hard graft they’ve put in over the last 12 months,” said Dan Swinhoe, UK Editor of CSO Online. “This has been a difficult year for cybersecurity professionals, and they have proven more than able to cope with not only the day-to-day challenges of cybersecurity but also rise to the occasion and adapt their tools, technologies, and processes to deal with COVID19 and the switch to secure remote work at scale.”
